Volvo plans to introduce a hands-free, point-to-point driving system by 2030, utilizing artificial intelligence technology from Nvidia. The Swedish automaker, which is owned by a Chinese company, announced the initiative on Thursday. The new system will rely on Nvidia's autonomous driving software stack to function similarly to Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) feature. Volvo describes the technology as Level 2++, a classification indicating the car can navigate complex urban settings without explicit driver control. This capability includes handling traffic lights, stop signs, and unprotected left turns. The company stated that the system will also resemble the Nvidia-powered technology recently deployed by Mercedes-Benz.
