McKinsey & Company is introducing a new interview step that requires some entry-level candidates to converse with an artificial intelligence simulation of a client. The Wall Street Journal reported that this 10-minute exercise is being added to the hiring process for business-analyst positions.

The firm stated that the AI tool aims to reflect 80% of the scenarios consultants might encounter in their day-to-day work. McKinsey clarified that the simulation is not designed to mimic an unhinged client. While the AI generates the conversation, it will not score the candidates. Human evaluators will remain in the room to assess how well applicants handle the simulated situations.

The tool is currently in testing for undergraduate candidates seeking business-analyst jobs in some offices.
