Twitch streamer Hasan Piker defended his use of inflammatory terms such as "inbred" and "Zionist pig" in a Thursday interview with NPR, arguing that his rhetoric targets specific ideologies rather than individuals. During the conversation, Piker acknowledged that he uses dehumanizing language but maintained that most of the backlash he receives stems from his personal background rather than his words alone.

NPR host Leila Fadel asked Piker about the controversy surrounding his comments and whether the reaction was linked to his name. Piker stated that while he admits to saying incendiary things, the public response differs when similar language comes from a White, Christian, American-born individual. He argued that his rhetoric is not reflected in the same way as that of others with different backgrounds.

Fadel pressed Piker on why someone who has felt dehumanized would choose to use dehumanizing language, particularly against Jewish opponents. In response, Piker said he follows a policy of being ruthless toward those who bully others or uphold ideologies he believes cause significant harm. He described "inbred" as a pejorative he commonly uses against right-wing reactionary, ethno-supremacist, and neo-Nazi ideologies, citing their focus on ethnic and racial purity as the reason for its aptness. He clarified that the term is not meant to be taken seriously.

Piker extended this logic to the term "pig," stating he uses similar language across the board regardless of a target's background. He described himself as a passionate person who gets angry and needs to communicate his frustration, noting that his streaming format differs from the interview setting. He insisted that his anger is directed at actions or belief systems, specifically reactionary beliefs, rather than a person's actual background.

The Israeli-American Council (IAC) condemned Piker's comments in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. The group stated that the Jewish people understand the consequences of accepting hatred, noting that historical pogroms and the Holocaust were fueled by lies portraying Jews as less than human. The IAC statement also referenced the events of October 7, 2023, describing Hamas actions as mass murder, rape, torture, and hostage-taking in the deadliest massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust. The group emphasized that for them, the consequences of antisemitic hatred are not an abstract debate.

Fox News Digital contacted Piker for comment regarding the IAC statement but did not receive an immediate response. In January, Piker was banned from Twitch for seven days for using the phrase "Zionist pig." He has repeatedly criticized Zionism and Israel. Although he has campaigned with several Democratic candidates, some Democrats distanced themselves from him in August after he warned American Jews they could face violence if they continued to support Israel.
