ABC News deleted a report on Thursday criticizing the business dealings of Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, following legal threats from a venture capital firm. The network has not provided an explanation or editor's note for the removal. The report, published Wednesday, claimed that Anduril, a defense technology company investing in a new Baltimore shipyard, had ties to the Trump sons through 1789 Capital. The deleted story stated that 1789 Capital, which lists Donald Trump Jr. as one of six partners, claimed a major stake in Anduril in June 2025 from a $2.5 billion investment. ABC News reported that Anduril had since received around $1.8 billion from 135 other U.S. government contracts, according to data on SAM.gov. Alexa Henning, a spokesperson for 1789 Capital and former chief of staff to the Director of National Intelligence, criticized the story as a biased hit piece on social media. Henning argued that the report conflated funds raised in a funding round with direct investments by 1789 Capital. She noted that many companies in the sector have received government contracts under both the Biden and Trump administrations. Henning told Fox News Digital that she sent a detailed email to ABC News pointing out reporting errors and informing the network that lawyers would be contacted if the story was not addressed. She said ABC News never requested comment from 1789 Capital before publishing the report. After the deletion, ABC News' website displayed a message stating the page does not exist or is unavailable. The network also removed a viral post on X intended to promote the story, which had been shared by several prominent Democrats. Trump Jr. responded on X to California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who had shared the original report. Trump Jr. wrote that ABC News deleted the article in less than 24 hours because it was false.
