Samsung UK has stated that its 2026 foldable lineup is selling significantly faster than the previous year's models, a development that follows the recent launch of Apple's iPhone Duo. In a new blog post, the company reported that combined European sales for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are up 45 percent compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While analysts had previously speculated that the iPhone announcement was driving interest in Samsung's devices, the company did not explicitly name Apple in its release. However, the timing of the sales surge aligns with the market debut of the competing foldable. Samsung noted that search volume for the Z8 series across Europe spiked 460 percent during the week of September 6 to 12. The iPhone Duo was announced on September 9, falling within that specific window of heightened consumer interest. For the entire month of September, which marked the launch period for the phones, Z Fold 8 search volume increased by 260 percent. The blog post did not include sales figures for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, a smaller foldable device. Samsung previously indicated that its larger foldables account for approximately 80 percent of total foldable purchases. The absence of Flip data suggests that sales growth in that category may not have been substantial enough to warrant public mention. This omission may reflect the fact that Apple has not released a flip-style phone, leaving Samsung without a direct competitor in that specific segment. The company's focus on the Z Fold series highlights where it sees the most significant overlap with new market entrants.
