The problem, according to a recently published opinion piece, is that not one of them builds toward a long-term regulatory framework, meaning a binding set of rules designed to organize accountability for the technology over time.

The gap between volume and vision

Counting proposals is not the same as measuring coverage. Legislators and regulators have produced thousands of AI-related measures, but the op-ed's central claim is that quantity has not produced depth. Each proposal tends to address a specific harm or a specific sector.
