The incident occurred on a flight traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to Bennett, the co-pilot allegedly attacked the pilot with a pocketknife and attempted to bring down the aircraft, sending it into a steep descent. Bennett stated that Israeli citizens aboard the flight responded by jumping into the cockpit, subduing the alleged attacker, and pulling him out. The second crew member, who was on standby, then took over control of the aircraft.
The flight was diverted to Saudi Arabia for an emergency landing at Tabuk Airport. Saudi authorities allowed the aircraft to land and provided care for those on board during the ground delay. Passengers were later transferred to another plane, and those present during the incident arrived at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv. Bennett thanked Saudi authorities for their assistance.

Saudi Arabia's Tabuk Airport reported that both pilots were hospitalized with injuries, according to Reuters. Israeli officials are currently investigating whether the incident was an attempted terrorist attack.
Current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the situation on Wednesday, praising those who intervened. He stated that he saluted the heroes who showed extraordinary bravery and, according to passenger accounts, saved many lives. Netanyahu added that the pilot accused of carrying out the stabbing had been arrested and is being questioned by Saudi authorities.
